Scarlett Johansson interview: part 2

Scarlett Johansson

Are there any poppy tunes you like dancing around too?
Scarlett Johansson:
I'm not like a huge [pop fan]. I mean, I hear pop music, of course, 'cos it’s everywhere. I don’t really listen to pop dance music. If I were to listen to popular music it would be more like hip-hop, like the stuff you hear in a club.

What hip-hop acts are your favourites?
Scarlett Johansson:
I love Nas, Outkast, I always liked Busta Rhymes.

Your hometown New York has a wealth of great music scenes. Who should we look out for?
Scarlett Johansson:
I love a band called Celebration, TV On The Radio and also a band called Grizzly Bear. And The National.

How would you compare the experience of recording in the studio to working on a film set?
Scarlett Johansson:
It's a totally different experience, when you're on set your working with a hundred people, but at the same time I have grown up with that. But for me, walking around a set you become so familiar with it that it becomes intimate [like in a studio].

Would you ever consider giving up acting, for music?
Scarlett Johansson:
I don't see why I should ever have to make that sacrifice. I like to explore all different aspects of my creativity, I see that as an impossibility [to decide between the two].

Are you planning to do any gigs?
Scarlett Johansson:
I have crippling stage fright so it would be a challenge for me. I think I should play [this album]. It’s a massive sound so it would be cool to hear in a big space, but I think it would be weird to do a whole show of covers. I think maybe at a festival, it would be nice to play with a band – I'd have to think about it, to get my head around singing it in front of people. Like John Travolta always said: "Imagine I am in Hawaii"! I guess it is like that. But hopefully, yeah.
